asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will make a further statement on the consequences of the abolition of the British National Oil Corporation.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

I hope to introduce legislation to abolish BNOC and establish an agency to take on its residual functions at an early opportunity.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will show the rise in earnings of people on 60 per cent., 80 per cent., 100 per cent. and 200 per cent. of the national average wage in Wales for each year since 1979 in constant, 1985, and unit terms, using 1979= 100; and if he will compare the rise in average earnings in Wales for each year since 1979 to date with the equivalent figures for (a) England and (b) the United Kingdom.

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what arrangements he envisages for payments of compensation to management and staff when the British National Oil Corporation is abolished.

Payment of compensation to management and staff is a matter for the corporation, which will doubtless have regard to the terms of contracts of employment and other relevant factors.
