HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc1065-6W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the total tax revenue received in the last financial year for which statistics are available from motor vehicle duties was contributed by (a) private vehicles and (b) vehicles owned by companies.

Mr. Hayhoe

It is estimated that about two thirds of the total tax revenue from vehicle excise duty, car tax, VAT on new cars and customs duty is contributed by private consumers, the remainder coming from businesses.
