Mr. Hayes

asked the Attorney-General how much his Department and that of the Lord Chancellor spent in 1983–84 on the purchase of newspapers, periodicals, books and other published reading material.

The total amount spent on such purchases in 1983–84 by my Department was £28,214.

The total amount spent on such purposes in 1983–84 by the Lord Chancellor's Department was £948,000, made up as follows:
