HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc975-6W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland what advice has been sought from his Department regarding the law on picketing.

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

No formal guidance in general has been sought by the police and none issued other than in the statement by my right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney-General on 16 March 1984, at columns 279–80, with which the then Lord Advocate —the noble and learned Lord Mackay of Clashfern—agreed. However, from time to time in accordance with normal practice individual chief constables or other senior police officers may consult procurators fiscal and they in turn may seek advice from the Crown Office.
