HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc972-3W
Sir Antony Buck

asked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement concerning the future holder of the offices of Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and Health Service Commissioner for England, Scotland and for Wales.

The Prime Minister

In accordance with section 1(3) of the Parliamentary Commissioner Act 1967, section 106(3) of the National Health Service Act 1977, and section 90(3) of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978, Sir Cecil Clothier will be retiring from these offices on 2 January 1985.

I am sure that all Members of the House would wish me to pay tribute to Sir Cecil's outstanding work in the performance of his duties over the last six years. As the fourth Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and the third Health Service Commissioner, he has made a major contribution to the effectiveness and prestige of these offices.

Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr. Anthony Richard Barrowclough QC as Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and Health Service Commissioner for England, for Scotland and for Wales, with effect from 3 January 1985.
