How many non-departmental public bodies were in existence on 24th October 1984; and how many existed on 4th May 1979.

There were 2,167 executive, advisory, tribunal or other non-departmental public bodies in existence on 1st April 1979. Provisional figures, to be finalised in the forthcoming publicationPublic Bodies 1984 record 1,679 such bodies in existence on 1st April 1984 (the latest date for which figures are available). These totals do not include nationalised industries, public corporations or National Health Service bodies.
