HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1003W
Sir John Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will give any instance of the multi-fibre arrangement's anti-surge clause having been implemented since the arrangement was concluded; and whether he plans to implement it in the United Kingdom in the current year in relation to the imports from any particular country.

Mr. Channon

There have been no cases to date of this clause having been implemented in any of the MFA signatory states. In the United Kingdom the Government have kept a close watch on import statistics of textiles and clothing, but there have as yet been no instances where the use of this clause has been justified. However, I will continue to consider any cases raised on their merits.
