HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1075W
Sir John Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make it his policy not to reduce and in the long term to increase the number of beds in efficient maternity units such as that in the Market Harborough hospital.

Mr. John Patten

As the Government indicated in their reply—Cmnd. 9371—to the third report from the Social Services Committee, it is for health authorities to determine the best way of providing maternity services that will meet local needs and circumstances.
