asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received on the need for additional service stations on the M4.

Representations have been made for and against a motorway service area on the M4 near Reading.

I announced in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Epping Forest (Sir J. Biggs-Davison), on 30 July, at columns 77–78, that a motorway service area is planned in that area. There will, of course, be consultation with the authorities concerned before planning clearance is sought.
