asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list those items, with their values, which entered into trade between the United Kingdom and Ethiopia in each year from 1979 to 1983, inclusive, and in the first half of 1984.

In 1979, imports from Libya were valued at £58,368 thousand cif and exports at £248,686 thousand fob. Information on the same basis for 1980 onwards is given in table 1B of the relevant volumes of the United Kingdom Overseas Trade Statistics, which are available in the Library. The principal commodities exported to Libya in order of value in the period in question have been as follows:

This information can be readily derived from table IB of the latest issue of the Overseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom, which is available in the Library.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what services are provided by the Export Credit Guarantee Department for those wishing to trade with Libya.

Mr. Channon

The Export Credit Guarantee Department cover for new export contracts with buyers in Libya has been in suspense since June this year pending a review of the market.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what firms have been assisted by his Department in their trade with Libya.
