Mr. Tim Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what advisers have been appointed by his Department during the last 12 months in connection with the Government's privatisation programme; and what advisers or consultants have been appointed in connection with any other matters.

[pursuant to his answer, 30 October 1984]: My Department has appointed no advisers during the last 12 months in connection with the Government's privatisation programme. We have, however, appointed a large number of consultants and advisers in connection with other matters. Apart from appointments in connection with research, computer and library work, the use of consultant inspectors to determine planning appeals, a substantial number of PSA works consultancies, and periodic appointments to formally constituted non-departmental advisory bodies — which appear in the annual publication "Public Bodies"—the main appointments have been as follows:
