HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c976W
Mr. Terlezki

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the exact number of pits so far rendered unworkable by the coal dispute.

Mr. David Hunt

I understand from the National Coal Board that conditions at many collieries in coalfields where miners are on strike have been seriously affected as a result. To date 20 working faces and eight salvage faces have been lost, and a further 84 faces are causing concern.

Mr. Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many miners have received notices of dismissal during the current miners' dispute; what information he has of the reasons for dismissal; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

Decisions on the employment and termination of employment of miners are matters for the NCB.
