HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc1084-5W
Mr. Fallon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what information he has about the cost per student in the 12 schools of chiropody recognised for state registration in the United Kingdom in the years 1981, 1982 and 1983, respectively;

(2) how many students graduated from the 12 schools of chiropody recognised for state registration in the United Kingdom in the years 1981, 1982 and 1983, respectively;

(3) further to his reply of 3 July to the hon. Member for Macclesfield, (Mr. Winterton) Official Report, column 138, what were the total costs of running the 12 schools of chiropody in the United Kingdom for the years 1981, 1982 and 1983, respectively.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Of the 12 chiropody schools recognised for state registration in the United Kingdom nine lie within the further education sector. The greater part of the cost of training students including the running costs of these schools is met from education funds and is therefore a matter for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Education and Science, Wales and Northern Ireland. Of the remaining three schools within the NHS sector those at Glasgow and Edinburgh are the concern of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland. I regret that information in the form requested is not available for the London foot hospital, the only NHS school in England.

The numbers of students qualifying from these schools for the years requested were:

1981 1982 1983
236 276 314
