asked the Secretary of State for Defence what percentage of applicants for service in the Army are rejected; what percentage of those who are rejected are rejected on medical grounds; and what are the main medical reasons for such rejections.

About 33 per cent. of applicants for service in the Army are rejected. 30 per cent. of the rejections are on medical grounds. The main medical reasons for rejection are injuries to or disabilities in the limbs or back, skin diseases, asthma, poor eyesight and obesity.
