HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c947W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what importance he attaches to the role of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and remedial gymnasts in rehabilitation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We have never doubted the vital role played by these professions in rehabilitation. The importance attached to this work by Health Authorities is evidenced by the increased numbers employed over the five years 1977–1982 which are the latest figures available. These in percentage terms are:

Percentage
Occupational therapists 39.9
Physiotherapists 34.3
Remedial gymnasts 22.4
