HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 cc940-1W
Mr. Freeman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many complaints were received from taxpayers in the last financial year about the handling of tax assessments; and what procedure is in place to review such complaints.

Mr. Moore

Such complaints may be addressed to local or regional Inland Revenue offices, or to head office, or may be made through a taxpayer's Member of Parliament. No overall count is made of complaints about assessments, and the procedure followed will depend on the nature of the complaint. All complaints are, however, carefully examined and followed up. If my hon. Friend has any specific case in mind, I shall be happy to have inquiries made into it.
