HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c921W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the serious offences alleged to have been committed by foreign diplomats in Britain in the last year so far to date, the nationality of the offender and the outcome in each case.

Mr. Rifkind

We have been informed of 22 alleged drink-driving offences committed since 1 January 1984; 10 alleged cases of theft; and three other alleged offences.

Two of the diplomats allegedly involved in drunken-driving have been transferred following representations by us; 12 have been dealt with by written representations to the head of mission; and eight are still under consideration. Of the alleged theft cases, two have been transferred; for have been dealt with by written representations; and four are still under consideration. The remaining three alleged offenders have all been transferred.

It would be inappropriate to list the nationality of the alleged offenders since their guilt has not been established in court.
