HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c901W
Mrs. Beckett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish in the Official Report the numbers of farm workers formerly employed on dairy farms, and who have been made redundant since 1 April 1984, on a county basis.

Mr. Jopling

I regret that this information is not available.

Mrs. Beckett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what response he has given to the leader of the farm workers' trade union on its request for compensation for farm workers sacked when their employers take advantage of the milk outgoers scheme.

Mr. Jopling

In correspondence with the national secretary of the Agricultural and Allied Workers National Trade Group I expressed the hope that such redundancies would be few and undertook to encourage close consultations between employers and employees about the implications of the outgoers scheme for jobs.

Any farm workers made redundant because of changes in the labour requirements of a holding will have full rights to redundancy payments within the terms of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978.
