HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 cc948-9W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate (a) how many patients will be accomodated in the community as a result of the proposed closure of Claybury hospital, (b) how many of these will be allocated to shared or support homes, (c) how many will be placed in individual homes and (d) of these last two categories how many of these homes would be expected to be provided by the local authorities.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

North-East Thames regional health authority and the district health authorities concerned are currently preparing plans for the proposed local reprovision of services currently provided at Claybury hospital. The intention is to provide a full range of locally based services, ranging from acute in-patient care and long term care to support for people living in the community, in co-operation as appropriate with local authorities. Full detailed proposals are not yet available. I suggest the hon. Member contacts North-East Thames regional health authority for further information on the current position on planning the proposed new pattern of services.
