HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c812W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will set out the number of students in full-time higher education within the discretion of the mandatory growth scheme as follows (a) in total, (b) those deemed to be in receipt of a parental contribution; and (c) as (b) but whose parents have (i) one additional dependent child, (ii) two additional dependent children, (iii) three additional dependent children, (iv) four additional dependent children, (v) more than four dependent children and giving all figures absolutely and as a percentage of (a)

Mr. Brooke

It is estimated that in the academic year 1984–85 there will be approximately 385,000 students in receipt of a mandatory award, of whom about 250,000 will have their award abated by a parental contribution. The Department does not collect information on the number of dependent children of parents liable for a parental contribution.
