HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 cc847-8W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the private patients using the lithotripter to be installed within St. Thomas's hospital will be occupying National Health Service beds or pay beds; whether the usual private inpatient charge will be payable; and by whom.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We do not collect this information.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give for each year since 1979 the number of state registered nurses admitted to the register of nurses following training in training schools established entirely within the National Health Service.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The information is not collected by the Department and is not available in the precise form requested. However figures supplied by the General Nursing Council for England and Wales and its successor, the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, show the numbers added to the Register during the years ending 31 March were as follows:

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The private patients using the lithotripter will occupy pay-beds in St. Thomas's hospital. The usual private in-patient charges will be payable by the private patients themselves.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the installation of the lithotripter at St. Thomas's hospital will be associated with an increase in the number of pay beds (a) within the urology department or (b) within the hospital generally.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

There will be no increase in the number of pay-beds at St. Thomas's hospital as a result of the installation of the lithotripter.
