HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c807W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he intends to introduce legislation to end the requirement for schools to conduct an act of corporate daily worship.

Mr. Dunn

No. My right hon. Friend has made it clear that the Government have no plans to introduce legislation to amend the existing statutory provisions on religious education in county and voluntary schools, which include the requirement that the school day in every such school shall begin with collective worship on the part of all pupils in attendance at the school, except those excused at the request of their parents.
