HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c792W
26. Mr. Malone

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many jobs he estimates have been created directly as a result of the development of the United Kingdom's North Sea oil reserves.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The Department of Employment estimated in June 1984 that some 32,100 people were directly employed offshore and onshore in the extraction of United Kingdom oil and gas. There are also many thousands of jobs in oil related industries.
