HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c833W
Sir Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why some prescription medicines are still being supplied by pharmacists to National Health Service patients where the instruction labels are printed in a foreign language and are usually not understood.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Existing regulations provide that dispensed medicines must be labelled with relevant particulars, including directions for use, in English, though other languages in addition are not prohibited. If my hon. Friend has evidence that medicines are being supplied to patients with instructions which are not in English I should be grateful if he would let me have the details.
