§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to enable the Commissioner for Local Administration to investigate complaints of maladministration against the London Docklands Development Corporation.
§ Sir George YoungIn his response to the review of part II of the Local Government Act 1974 by the Commission for Local Administration in England, which recommended that jurisdiction of the commissioner should be extended to the urban development corporations, my right hon. Friend said that he shared this view in respect of the development control functions of the UDCs but had not reached a conclusion in respect of other functions. He proposes to re-examine this question after completion of the inquiry by the Select Committee on the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration into non-departmental public bodies.
§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what representations he has received alleging a need to investigate complaints of maladministration against the London Docklands Development Corporation; and what replies he has given;
(2) what discussions he has had with the officers of the London Docklands Development Corporation about the most appropriate way of investigating complaints of maladministration brought against them; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George YoungWe have received no representations specifically alleging a need to investigate complaints of maladministration against the corporation. I have had no discussions with LDDC about the most appropriate way any such complaints might be investigated.
