HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c834W
Mr. Lyell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will provide child benefit for pupils who remain in secondary education beyond their 19th birthday.

Mr. Newton

We have no plans to do so, but I will draw my hon. Friend's suggestion, which would cost £5 million to £6 million a year, to the attention of the review team which is considering benefits for children and young people.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has any changes to propose to the child benefit system; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

The child benefit system is within the terms of the review which my right hon. Friend is conducting of provision for children and young people.
