HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c813W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in what manner Her Majesty's Government were represented at the meeting of representatives of 21 European and Central American states at San José, Cost Rica, on 29 and 30 September; what expenditure has been agreed or proposed by the European Economic Community; and on what it will be spent.

Mr. Renton

My right hon. and learned Friend attended the meeting of 21 European and Latin American states in San José, Costa Rica, on 28 and 29 September. It was agreed at the meeting and announced in the final communiqué that the European Community would do everything possible, within the context of its present and future programmes in support of developing countries, towards the development of the region. These actions would be identified by common agreement, based on the priorities and objectives of the region and should be multilateral in character. No figures of expenditure on aid were discussed, and this is currently a matter for consideration by the Community.
