HC Deb 26 October 1984 vol 65 cc769-70W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many more prisoners in existing prisons will have (a) integral sanitation and (b) night-time access to sanitation as a result of the current programme of redeveloping and refurbishing existing prisons.

Mr. Mellor

Schemes currently in progress or planned at existing establishments will provide about 10,000 places with integral sanitation. No further schemes for controlled access to sanitation—for example, by electric unlocking—have as yet reached the planning stage.
