HC Deb 26 October 1984 vol 65 c734W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he proposes to take following the landing by Dutch fishermen of 90,651 tonnes of mackerel in 1984 when the quota for that country was 37,300 tonnes; and if he will made a statement.

Mr. MacGregor

It is for the European Commission to propose the penalties to be imposed on member states in cases of serious and systematic overfishing of quotas. I have made it clear that we expect an early report from the Commission on whether the Dutch have overfished the western mackerel stock to the extent claimed and on the action it proposes.
