HC Deb 26 October 1984 vol 65 cc752-3W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all the benefits which those on Manpower Services Commision schemes are entitled to claim.

Mr. Whitney

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to benefits other than the various allowances paid by the Manpower Services Commission to people on training courses, the community programme, the youth training scheme and other schemes. Broadly speaking, social security benefits are payable to people on MSC schemes provided that they are not benefits—for example, incapacity benefits—which are incompatible with participation in training courses or other work-related activities. Whether or not a particular benefit is payable will, of course, depend on individual circumstances and on satisfaction of the conditions of entitlement for that benefit. The main social security benefits for which entitlement may continue, depending on circumstances, are as follows:

  • Child benefit
  • One-parent benefit
  • 753
  • Family income supplement
  • Widow's pension or allowance
  • Disablement benefits and related allowances
  • War pensions and related allowances
  • Mobility allowance
  • Housing benefit
  • Supplementary benefit
  • Unemployment benefit
  • Help with hospital fares, NHS dental charges, spectacles and prescriptions.
