HC Deb 26 October 1984 vol 65 c732W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the level of the advanced further education quantum in cash terms since 1980–81; and what are the corresponding levels in real terms designating the base year 1980–81 as 100.

Mr. Brooke

The levels of the advanced further education quantum for each year since 1980–81 in cash and in cost terms, using the deflator for gross domestic product at market prices, are as follows:

Cash terms £ million Cost terms £ million Index
(a) (b) (c)
1980–81 421.4 421 100
1981–82 447.0 407 97
1982–83 539.0 460 109
1983–84 560.5 454 108
1984–85 580.5 448 106

The figures are net expenditure figures and are therefore affected by changes in the fee levels for home students on first degree and diploma courses. For example., there was a substantial reduction in the home student tuition fee between 1981–82 and 1982–83.
