HC Deb 25 October 1984 vol 65 c672W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what consideration was given, when drawing up the proposal to include Hinckley within the newly defined Coventry travel-to-work area, to the published information from the 1981 census, indicating that Hinckley has stronger links with other parts of Leicestershire;

(2) what consideration was given to the numbers of people travelling to work to Leicester from Hinckley and from Hinckley to Coventry and Nuneaton when the proposal was drawn up to place Hinckley in the Coventry travel-to-work area.

Mr. Alan Clark

The definition of the new Coventry and Hinckley travel-to-work area was derived from an analysis of the 1981 census data on journeys to work. The methods used in this analysis, which took account of journeys between Hinckley and all other areas, are fully described in "Occasional Supplement No. 3" published with the September edition ofEmployment Gazette; a copy of which is in the Library.
