HC Deb 25 October 1984 vol 65 cc663-9W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list in the Official Report those organisations and individuals who responded to the Green Paper, "Parental Influence at School" (Cmnd 9242); how many of these submissions supported the proposal that parents should elect, from amongst themselves, the majority of the members of school governing bodies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

[pursuant to his reply, 23 October 1984, c. 532–3]: By 22 October, responses had been received from the organisations listed as follows and from 179 individuals. A substantial number of respondents favoured increased parental representation on school governing bodies: 33 expressed themselves clearly in favour of a parental majority. The Government are now considering the way forward in the light of the various comments received.
