Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what specialist facilities are available to people with multiple sclerosis for neuro physiotherapy; where they are situated; what action he is taking to develop such facilities; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what specialist facilities are available to people with multiple sclerosis for nutritional advice; where they are situated; what action he is taking to develop such facilities; and if he will make a statement.

This information is not held centrally. It is for district health authorities to provide and develop appropriate clinical facilities for those with multiple sclerosis, as indeed for other patients with disabling neurological conditions. Service provision is normally made available from district general hospitals.

(2) what specialist facilities are available to people with multiple sclerosis for telephone counselling by trained counsellors who have personal experience of the disease; where they are situated; what action he is taking to develop such facilities; and if he will make a statement.

This information is not held centrally. The development of any specialised scheme would be a matter for local or health authorities as appropriate working in concert with clients and voluntary effort, taking account of local needs.

Information on specialist facilities for hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not held centrally. Whilst its effects in the treatment of multiple sclerosis have yet to be assessed and established, hyperbaric oxygen is not made generally available from district general hospitals in Wales.
