Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish a table giving separately the number of employees in each central Government trading fund and the predecessor organisations at 1 April for the years 1970 to 1984.

Following are the staff-in-post figures for each of the four central Government trading funds at 1 April for the years 1970 to 1984. HMSO was granted trading fund status on 1 April 1980, The Crown Suppliers, formally PSA Supplies, on 1 April 1976, the Royal Mint on 1 April 1975 and the royal ordnance factories on 1 July 1974:
