§ Mr. WaldegraveWe have taken the conservation lead in Europe by asking the Community for legal backing to spend money not only on producing food, but also on helping farmers to protect the environment. We shall continue our efforts to make the Wildlife and Countryside Act effective, working closely with the Nature Conservancy Council and the Countryside Commission. As the hon. Member knows I am looking at ways of strengthening the Act.
