asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement of the effects on employment and services of Government funding to the London borough of Islington for the financial year 1985–86.

The main source of Government funding to Islington LBC is rate support grant. Any local authority's block grant entitlement depends initially upon its grant-related expenditure. Islington's GRE per head is the second highest in inner London and is 23 per cent. above the inner London average. Beyond that, the council can maximise its grant entitlement by meeting its expenditure target.
