Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all hospitals (a) closed and (b) opened, indicating the numbers of beds involved, in both instances for each district health authority for each of the past five years.

The information that we have available centrally on complete hospital closures is in table 1. The information available centrally on building schemes over £5 million completed during this period is in table 2. We do not have complete information on beds opened therefore as we do not collect it on smaller schemes.
