HC Deb 24 October 1984 vol 65 cc596-7W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further progress has been made with the Spanish Government in relation to the implementation of the Lisbon agreement regarding free vehicular and pedestrian movement on both sides of the border between Gibraltar and Spain.

Mr. Renton

Since the reply given by my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. Whitney) to my hon. Friend on 12 July at column. 672 my right hon. and learned Friend has had a further meeting with the Spanish Foreign Minister in New York on 25 September at which they reviewed the discussions which had taken place at the diplomatic and technical level. These contacts are continuing with a view to achieving the earliest possible normalisation of relations between Spain and Gibraltar. My right hon. and learned Friend expects to meet the Spanish Foreign Minister again before long.
