§ Mr. YoungerIn September 1983, the latest date for which information is available, the numbers of pupils with educational needs specifically linked to visual impairment of whatever degree in special schools were as follows:
(i) Education authority schools—total 565. Number Borders 1 Central 20 Dumfries and Galloway 5 Fife 50 Grampian 69 Highland 13 Lothian 88 Strathclyde 284 Tayside 28 Orkney 2 Western Isles 3 Shetland 2 (ii) Grant-aided schools—total 108. Since handicapped pupils in mainstream primary and secondary schools are fully integrated with their non-handicapped peers no attempt is made to distinguish them by reference to impairment.
