HC Deb 23 October 1984 vol 65 cc529-30W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent arrangements have been made by the Bank of England to rescue Dunlop from its £400 million losses; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lawson

None.

I understand that after recent reports concerning its role in the affairs of Dunlop the Bank of England made a statement in the following terms: Contrary to indications in a press article today, the Bank of England is not engaged in discussions currently in train between Dunlop and its bankers. But the Bank has been kept informed of the progress of these discussions throughout and its good offices continue to be available to those concerned as in any other case in the normal way".

I have nothing further to add to the Bank of England's statement.
