asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total expenditure on maintenance, security and all other outgoings incurred at St. George's hospital, Hyde Park corner, London SW1 from the date that the building became vacant.

From 1980, when the hospital closed, until 30 September 1984 the Department incurred total expenditure of some £340,000, of which approximately £190,000 on security formed the largest component.
