HL Deb 22 October 1984 vol 456 c126WA
Lord Henderson of Brompton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will increase their grant to the Health Education Council so that they may expand their anti-smoking campaign and make it more effective.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Glenarthur)

Earlier this year the Government increased their grant to the Health Education Council by half a million pounds in order to finance additional anti-smoking activity. The grant for the current year is £9.1 million, and a significant proportion is being devoted to programmes aimed at discouraging smoking. A new media campaign on this subject is being planned by the council for the spring of 1985.
