HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c522W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the saving to his Department by delaying for one week the uprating in (a) retirement pensions and (b) other social security benefits.

Mr. Whitney

A periodic adjustment to the 52-week uprating cycle is necessary to maintain the uprating at the same point in the year. Savings do not therefore arise from the 53-week interval between the 1983 and 1984 upratings.
