§ Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Defence what notification is given to local police and fire authorities prior to the transport of nuclear warheads or missiles through the centre of a city.
§ Mr. StanleyI cannot add to the letter sent to the hon. and learned Member on 20 September 1984 by my noble Friend the Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces.
§ Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he holds consultations with police and fire authorities concerning safety considerations when nuclear missiles or weapons are transported through the centre of cities.
§ Mr. StanleyFor security reasons, it has been the practice of successive Governments neither to confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons at any location nor to comment on the arrangements for transporting them. However, appropriate general guidance about the safety aspects of these movements is given in a classified form to chief constables and fire officers where necessary.
