HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c432W
Mr. Arnold

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he, or the Metropolitan Police, have received from retail establishments near St. James's Square, London, about the financial consequences to them of the police operation at the Libyan People's Bureau.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Written representations have been received from seven shops, three restaurants, two clubs, one public house and seven other firms operating in or around the St. James's Square area about the financial consequences to them of the incident at the Libyan People's Bureau in April. They have been informed that no arrangements exist for the payment of compensation from public funds to meet financial losses suffered as a result of the police carrying out their duty to investigate crime and to protect life and property.
