HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c505W
Mr. Maude

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many officials in his Department are entitled to Government cars and drivers for visiting benefit claimants; what is the current grade of official so entitled; and what is the cost of providing cars and drivers to these officials.

Mr. Whitney

Officials visiting claimants are not entitled to Government cars and drivers. Where visits cannot be made on foot, the most economical form of transport available is used, including the use of an officer's private car with a mileage allowance.
