HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c518W
Mr. Nellist

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services at what level the Christmas bonus for senior citizens would now stand if the original payment when first introduced in December 1972 has been uprated by (a) the rise in retail prices, and (b) the rise in average earnings.

Mr. Whitney

Based on the movement in(a) the retail prices index and (b) the index of average earnings, between December 1972 and May 1984, the level of the Christmas bonus would be (a) £39.55 and (b) £43.87 respectively.
