HC Deb 28 November 1984 vol 68 c503W
18. Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the progress made in reducing the level of nitrate pollution of public water supplies.

Mr. Waldegrave

I am advised that there is no danger to public health from nitrate in public water supplies. I will be looking carefully at applications submitted to the Department for derogations from the nitrate level of 50 mg/litre set in the EC directive relating to the quality of water intended for human consumption.
