§ 45. Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he plans any legislation to force local authorities to deal with dangerous conditions in houses in multiple occupation.
§ Mr. GowLocal authorities have wide powers which enable them to control the condition of houses in multiple occupation. Statutory Instrument 1981/1576 imposes duties in respect of means of escape from fire in specified houses in multiple occupation. The need for further measures will be considered in the light of research which my Department is carrying out into the use and condition of such accommodation.
